Mission

“Inspiring hope and promoting positive health, wellbeing and longevity of work and life”

Our Kaupapa

Brocode is the Bay of Plenty’s annual community driven event for men.

It provides men a night to lean in on inspirational speakers who openly share their journeys, struggles, lessons and tools towards optimum health and wellness.

The ‘Brocode’ approach sends a powerful message of kotahitanga and brotherhood to create a positive, inspiring and safe space for Tane to address barriers effecting longevity of work, personal and whanau relationships and overall wellbeing so they can revitalise their mana motuhake and role as Rangatira in whānau and community.

We aim to provide hope, support, training, connections and resources for men in Tauranga Moana going through a difficult time, or for people who are supporting loved ones through a difficult time.

We prioritise providing resources and support which reflect Māori concepts of health language and world views, and available in Te reo Māori.”

Where we started…

Founded by Jimi Roberts, our inaugural event launched in June 2020 attracting 90 men from all walks of life within Tauranga Moana. Our inaugural Brocode keynote was Tawera Nikau, supported by local mentors, Jimi Roberts, Mr G and Aihe Toma. The kaupapa was backed by Tuhono Whenua Horticulture and supported by local iwi Ngati Ranginui. All participants were provided with a Tane ora toolkit including merchandise from sponsors Zespri, Goodbuzz Kombucha & Bay of Plenty Supplements aswell as wellbeing resources from local health providers.

“It was an absolute privilege to be a part of the BROCODE event, an amazing opportunity for us men to come together, Korero and awhi each other in a non judgmental environment”

- Tawera Nikau MNZM

A pilot programme, Te Ara Wheke then developed as a five week success series to deepen the Brocode learnings and provide the expertise, tips and tools needed for men to improve their health and wellbeing for longevity of work and life. This was co-funded by Ranginui Iwi and Te Puni Kokiri.

“Had an awesome night as a guest speaker alongside the legend himself Tawera Nikau sharing our stories and touching on aspects of mens holistic health, He kaupapa whakahirahira ki nga tane mai tenei wa!…Big Shout out to Jimi & Stacey and team for starting and initiating this awesome kaupapa, Mauri Ora.”

— MR G, Hoete.

It takes a talented speaker to keep a room full of men inspired, engaged and having fun while moving towards positive transformation.

If you know of a speaker who would be a perfect fit for our next BROCODE event - get in contact.

Maybe they have an inspirational story to share about overcoming challenges or embracing change, or maybe they battled their mental health challenges in a fun or a quirky way and have demonstrated resilience? Whatever it is, we would love to hear from you as we know, sharing ‘like me’ or ‘this is how I did it’ stories can make all the difference.
